The first Fish n Frolics event was in July 2013. Initially created to extend the clubs membership and awareness in the local community. A need was recognised that the involvement of junior fishing was vital for the clubs long term security. Our nominated charity is a local one - Shipston First Responders The 2015 Festival kicked off on Sunday 19th July with our 1st excellent charity Duck Race. 2015 saw 673 ducks take to the waters at Shipston Bridge in four races and with a record number of spectators. Our thanks go to everyone who sponsored a duck and everyone who came along to cheer on their duck. After handing out the winnings over £500 was shared equally between Shipston Home Nursing and junior angling in the Shipston area. Our 2015 Festival Weekend took place from Friday 24th July and Sunday 26th July and was hugely successful on all fronts, senior competitive angling, junior coaching and evenings of frolics with great bands every night at Shipston Sports Club. 2017 saw a record turn out to the now Annual Duck Race. We were able to raise £335 for Shipston First Responders as well as providing a fun afternoon for the community. If you would like to contact the Festival organisers, then please email them at shipstonangling@gmail.com or visit the Fish n Frolics website www.fishnfrolics.com/ where plans will become available.
Junior Fishing In December 2015 saw Stour Valley Lions again declare their wholehearted support for junior angling in Shipston with a generous donation. The Lions' 2014 donation was used, along with a grant of the same size from the Club, to train our coaches - Rob and Stuart, up to Level 1. The 2015 donation, which will again be matched by the Club, will be used to increase Rob and Stuart's coaching certification to Level 2.
If you would like to find out more about the junior activities then please contact: Stuart Fleming (01608 664832 / 07543 613350 / smfleming007@gmail.com on or take a look at the Junior Angling page which has details of the events. You can also contact Stuart for any general enquiries.
Shipston Angling Club Welcome to Shipston on Stour and District Angling Club's page. The Club aims to provide high quality angling in and around Shipston and has both lakes and river stretches that we think achieve this aim.
Membership cards for the are available from Malcolm Allinson on 01608 661508 / 07958 693690 (9 Mill Street, Shipston on Stour. CV36 4AN.) Prices for the season are £35 Adults / £30 O65 / £5 juniors. 2019 sees an exciting addition to the Club's list of waters. In association with ADDAC and Stratford on Avon AA, whose members can also fish this water, we have secured the fishing rights to the River Avon below Severn Meadows Bridge, Pegs 1 to 51 at the racecourse. The club also retains its traditional 7 stretches on the River Stour totalling approximately 4 miles of riverbank. Some of the stretches are adjacent to each other but are named differently due to their differing entry points. The majority of fishing is for coarse fish, the major species being Chub and Roach, but there are also Dace, Gudgeon, Perch, Eels, Pike and the occasional Carp and Tench. A good Stour Chub would be 3 1/2 lb and each year a few 1lb Roach and Perch are caught.Trout are present in a couple of the higher stretches where the water is fishable with the fly in April and May, when there is a small Mayfly hatch, but after that weed growth makes it difficult. Some members have also been experimenting with Tenkara fly fishing techniques in some of the other stretches. Whilst the majority of members are pleasure anglers there is an active match section fishing an average of 13 away matches and 20 home matches each year. The away matches are on a variety of match venues around the area, like Napton, Meadowlands, Boddington and Earlswood as well as other river venues at Hampton Lucy and Barford. Aston Magna Lake proves a haven for anglers of all ages. See navigation tabs above for maps and photographs of each venue.
