CHAIRMAN'S END OF YEAR REPORT - 2022
At last fishing is free from all Covid regulations and matches can go ahead without hindrance, the only problem this year occurred in the Summer when due to severe temperatures some matches had to be cancelled. In my 65 years of Match fishing I cannot remember a match being cancelled because it was too hot!! Membership is less by 12 on the previous year, this is the 3rd year on the trot that there has been a slight reduction in total memberships but this is to be expected. The club is still very well supported. There is still work to be done at Aston Magna lakes. The middle lake requires new pegs and the match lake needs pegs to be repaired. The work will be done in the spring of 2023. The match lake contests were generally won with bream, the larger carp didn't show until the Autumn. It was good to see the stocky carp and the crucian carp showing in All the matches. The car park lake fished well all year with roach, rudd, bream, chub, dace, gudgeon, sticklebacks (stickies) and small carp all being caught. The Duck Race, unfortunately had to be cancelled again due to the heat and lack of water in the river Stour, this has been rearranged to the Spring. Live music and entertainment went ahead for the FISH’n’FROLICS 3-day Festival and the winner of The Ultimate Angler was Baz Barnes. The Peter Jackson trophy for the club pensioners was fished during the spring/ summer at Aston Magna and Willington lakes. The winner was myself and Malcolm Allinson was second. Shipston club contests were well attended by members and big weights were recorded at Meadowlands where Richard Hornsby had 92lbs of carp and at Boddington Luke Mason had 199 lbs of carp, WELL DONE. The Cotswold cup was held at Bourton On The Water and run by Moreton ac, this was won by Shipston with Andy Bruce as the overall winner. The WACFAC Annual contest was held on ADDAC water at Clifford Chambers. I won the match for the 5th year consequently with 168 lbs. Shipston also won the Stratford ac Winter League after a very close series of matches with Stuart Fleming finishing joint first. Unfortunately in October I had to resign as Club Chairman due to health reasons, I'm still on the Committee as the WACFAC representative.I would like to thank the Committee for all their help and hard work and ALL the members of the club during 2022. The Monthly Committee meetings are now held at The White Bear and not The Coach and Horses due to recent changes there. The Committee would like to say that we hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and we look forward to another good fishing New Year.
